If your garage door cable is worn out or broken it s important that you replace it as soon as possible.
To start your repairs look at the metal tracks to determine is there is anything that could be preventing the door from moving smoothly.
To fix your garage door cables you ll want to release the tension of the springs by lifting the door.
Make sure you have the garage door closed when you re undertaking the garage door cable repair.

Pull the red cord to release the door from the track.
Garage doors open and close by moving along the metal tracks on either side.
Pull the red cord hanging from it until you hear a click to disengage the door from the track.
The first thing to be done is releasing the tension from the cable.
This will prevent the door from shooting up and breaking your nose when you wind the new springs during an overhead garage door repair.
When you re done fix the other end which is a cable loop to the pin at the bottom of the garage door.
At the base of the trolley track on the ceiling of your garage is a small box that operates the automatic garage door opener.
Clamp a locking pliers or a c clamp to the track just above one of the rollers.
Also yank the cord and unplug the garage door opener before you start any garage door spring repair.
Place c clamps under the door on both sides to ensure that the garage door will stay up.
Turn off your garage door opener and open the garage door fully.
